Home / Martin and Rick go skiing (and ice-climbing) 28

March 2010In March 2010 Martin and Rick spent a week touring around south-west Colorado during Rick’s Spring Break. First stop was Mt. Crested Butte, where we spent two days getting our ski legs back in shape. The weather was nice but alas the slopes were mostly hard-packed. Then we drove to Ouray, where we spent a day climbing in the ice park just outside town (they manufacture ice by spraying water on the cliffs at night). Finally we headed to Silverton Mountain, where we had two days of stellar skiing, with a rest day in between to visit Fort Lewis College in Durango. Highlights of Silverton were a hike to “Billboard Peak” (13,053’) and a couple of heli-ski runs, culminating with a ski down the “Grand Colouir” between Storm and Velocity Peaks (13,487’ and 13,325’).
